As I reflect on Francis approach to death my reflection on his words take me to Lester Bach’s poem (1999) on Sister Death:
Sister Death is a gifted teacher
she helps us understand
what is important in life.
Clinging, clutching and fussing have
a different flavour
in the presence of Sister Death.
What we bring to God at that moment
is who we have become
in responding to God through
a lifetime of seeking, growing and changing.
